Heavy diesel Mechanic

We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Heavy Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our maintenance team. 

The role involves diagnosing faults, servicing, maintaining and repairing diesel-powered heavy vehicles, earthmoving equipment and associated machinery across workshop and remote field operations. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring fleet assets remain safe, reliable and operational, while working both independently and collaboratively in challenging and remote environments. Applicants must have strong diagnostic skills, a commitment to workplace safety and the ability to respond to maintenance and breakdown requirements across multiple operational sites.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop and Field Maintenance

• Service, maintain and repair diesel-powered heavy vehicles, prime movers, trailers, crane trucks, cement agitators, earthmoving machinery and associated plant equipment.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.
• Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance and component replacements to ensure the reliability and safety of fleet assets.
• Carry out breakdown repairs and emergency maintenance in both workshop and field environments (along remote highway's and other remote locations).
• Inspect, test and adjust repaired systems and components to ensure equipment operates efficiently and in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

Remote and Field Service

• Attend breakdowns and maintenance call-outs across operational sites, remote locations and transport routes.
• Diagnose faults and perform repairs in isolated field environments with minimal supervision.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety and efficiency while working independently in remote conditions.
• Travel and work at remote project, mine and exploration sites as required, including overnight stays (this does include camping in swags)
• Ensure machinery and vehicles are returned to operational condition with minimal downtime.

Workshop Operations

• Maintain a safe, clean and organised workshop environment.
• Conduct routine inspections and cleaning of vehicles, machinery and equipment.
• Assist with the maintenance of tools, workshop equipment, spare parts and consumable inventories.
• Complete maintenance records, service reports and repair documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Comply with workplace health and safety policies, procedures and industry standards.

Operational Support

• Liaise with operators, drivers and supervisors regarding equipment performance, maintenance requirements and repair priorities.
• Support equipment recovery operations and emergency response activities when required.
• Contribute to the efficient operation of the maintenance team by assisting colleagues and sharing technical knowledge.
• Assist in minimising operational downtime through prompt diagnosis, repair and maintenance of fleet assets.

Essential Requirements

Minimum of 3 years experience as a Heavy diesel Mechanic

Minimum of Open HR license 

Able to pass drug and alcohol tests regularly

Ability to pass a full mining medical 

Ability to work unsupervised in remote locations
