Painting Trades Worker — Full-Time
Chahal Painting VIC is seeking a skilled and reliable Painting Trades Worker to join our team on a full-time basis. The business is based in Wallan VIC, with work mainly carried out across the northern suburbs of Melbourne and surrounding areas.
This is a skilled trade role suitable for an experienced painter who can work independently on residential and commercial painting projects, prepare surfaces properly, apply high-quality finishes, and follow workplace health and safety requirements.
Position Details
Position: Painting Trades Worker
Employment Type: Full-time
Location: Wallan VIC base, with work across northern Melbourne suburbs
Salary: from $ 80,000 - $85,000 plus superannuation subject to experience and skills
Hours: 38 hours per week
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Preparing interior and exterior surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, filling cracks, patching holes, sealing surfaces, and removing old paint or wallpaper where required.
- Erecting and using ladders, trestles and scaffolding safely, and placing drop sheets and protective coverings to prevent paint damage to floors, furniture, fixtures and surrounding areas.
- Selecting, preparing and mixing paints, stains, varnishes and other coatings to achieve required colours, textures and finishes.
- Applying primers, undercoats, paint, varnish, stain and other finishes using brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
- Matching colours and finishes according to client requirements, project specifications and surface conditions.
- Reading and following job instructions, measurements, work scopes and basic project requirements.
- Ensuring all painting work is completed to a professional standard with proper surface coverage, clean lines and consistent finish.
- Maintaining tools, painting equipment and materials in good working condition.
- Following workplace health and safety procedures, including safe handling of paints, chemicals, ladders and worksite equipment.
- Working with the employer, clients, builders, contractors and other trades to complete projects within required timeframes.
- Cleaning work areas after completion and ensuring the site is left neat and safe.
Skills and Experience Required
Applicants must have:
- Relevant trade qualification in painting and decorating or at least 3 years of relevant painting trade experience.
- Practical experience in residential and/or commercial painting.
- Strong knowledge of surface preparation, paint application, colour matching and finishing techniques.
- Ability to use brushes, rollers, spray equipment, ladders and other painting tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver a clean, high-quality finish.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Current driver’s licence and ability to travel to job sites across northern Melbourne suburbs.
