Perth Observatory is seeking a practical, reliable and self-motivated Maintenance Officer to join our team.

This full-time position is responsible for maintaining the Observatory's buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment, helping to ensure a safe, functional and welcoming environment for visitors, volunteers and staff.

The role offers a diverse range of work including facility maintenance, groundskeeping, contractor coordination, equipment upkeep and general operational support.

Future Caretaker Opportunity

While the position is initially focused on maintenance duties, there is potential for the successful applicant to assume caretaker responsibilities in the future, subject to organisational requirements and the availability of caretaker accommodation.

About You

You will have:

• Experience in building, property or facilities maintenance, or a similar hands-on role.
• Strong handyman and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• A commitment to workplace health and safety.
• A current Western Australian Driver's Licence.

• A minimum of 1-2 years' experience in building, property or facilities maintenance.

• Australian citizenship is required for this position.

The following skills and experience would be highly regarded:

• Welding
• Machining
• Carpentry
• Working at Heights
• Skid Steer operation
• Electrical or plumbing experience
