About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our finance team on a full-time basis in Fortitude Valley. This role is essential to the smooth operation of our financial processes and reporting functions. As an Assistant Accountant, you will provide critical support to our senior accounting staff, working with a variety of financial transactions and helping to ensure accurate and timely reporting across the organisation. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your accounting expertise within a growing automotive business.

Key responsibilities

1. Processing and recording financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable

2. Preparing and reconciling bank statements and general ledger accounts

3. Assisting in the preparation of financial statements and management reports

4. Performing data entry and maintaining accurate financial records using accounting software

5. Assisting with month-end and year-end closing procedures

6. Responding to invoice queries and resolving accounting discrepancies

7. Supporting the senior accounting team with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting tasks

8. Ensuring all financial documentation is properly filed and organised in accordance with company policies

What we're looking for

1. A qualification in accounting or bookkeeping, such as a Certificate III or IV in Accounting, or equivalent relevant experience

2. Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

3. Strong numerical and analytical skills with an attention to detail and accuracy

4. Excellent organisational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently

5. Sound understanding of basic accounting principles and practices

6. Professional communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team

7. Reliability, integrity, and a commitment to confidentiality in handling financial information

8. A willingness to learn and develop your accounting knowledge and expertise

9. Preferred experience in the automotive or retail sector
