Key Responsibilities

  • Program, set up and operate CNC lathes, milling machines and other machining equipment.
  •  Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and engineering specifications.
  • Program and adjust CNC machines for precision cutting and shaping of metal parts.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure components meet strict tolerances and specifications
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of machining equipment.
  • Work closely with engineers and production teams to optimise machining processes.
  • Adhere to workplace safety standards and company policies. 

Qualification & experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Metal Machinist.
  • Relevant qualifications in Engineering, Fitting & Machining, or Trade Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC programming.
  • Experience with CNC machining, precision measuring tools, and quality control processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Baker & Provan

Baker & Provan is a family owned Australian engineering company established in 1946. Today, Baker & Provan services Rail, Defence and other industries specialising in design, small to heavy fabrication, machining and repair of mechanical components. Some of components that Baker & Provan has manufactured and/or repaired include locomotive and passenger bogies, anti-roll bars, traction rods, European train couplers, train wheel axles, including light rail bogies, tyres, wheels, axle boxes and output couplings.

Baker & Provan has a large manufacturing workshop in western Sydney with 6,500m2 under roof with land size 10,000m2. Within this facility Baker & Provan has 18 small to heavy CNC machines, performing welding, CNC machining, assembly, repair and overhaul of mechanical equipment for, Rail, Defence, Mining, Power Generation and other heavy industries. The workshop has 10 overhead cranes with the largest lift capacity up to 32 tonnes and employs 95 personnel across 4 sites in Australia.

Baker & Provan is recognized as a very high quality engineering and manufacturing company having ISO 9001:2015 QMS and ISO 45001:2018 OHS certifications, as well as the internationally recognised ISO 3834 Part 2 – fusion welding of metallic products.
