We are looking for a skilled and reliable Upholsterer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for repairing, restoring, and upholstering furniture while ensuring high-quality workmanship and attention to detail. You will also maintain a clean workspace, manage materials efficiently, and ensure smooth workflow in a busy environment.

Task & responsibilities

  • Measure, cut, and fit upholstery materials accurately to ensure quality finishing and proper furniture coverage.
  • Remove old coverings, webbing, and padding from furniture to prepare items for reupholstery and restoration work.
  • Construct, repair, and restore furniture frames while replacing damaged springs, padding, and structural components where required.
  • Sew cushions and join sections of covering materials to achieve neat and durable upholstery work.
  • Attach decorative trims, braids, buttons, and other finishing materials to enhance furniture's appearance.
  • Upholster mattresses and furniture by padding and covering spring units according to required standards.
  • Secure fabric, leather, padding, springs, and webbing to furniture using appropriate upholstery tools and techniques.
  • Maintain stock levels of upholstery materials and tools, and ensure an organised and safe work environment.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures while maintaining cleanliness and efficiency within the workshop.
  • Confer with clients to determine upholstery requirements, materials, designs, and estimated costs for furniture items to be made or repaired.
  • Inspect materials and completed work to ensure quality, durability, and customer satisfaction.

Qualification & experience

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience as an Upholsterer or in a similar role within the upholstery, furniture, or furnishing industry.
  • Relevant qualification in upholstery, furniture restoration, or a related field is highly regarded.
  • Strong teamwork, time management, and organisational skills to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of tasks.
  • Sound knowledge of upholstery materials, furniture restoration techniques, tools, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Attention to detail with a genuine passion for delivering high-quality workmanship and professionally finished furniture items.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to handle custom orders, repairs, and varying client requirements.
