Wall and Floor Tiler

The job is to expertly lay ceramic, clay, slate, marble, and glass tiles on both external and internal walls and floors. To ensure that the tiles are accurately placed to provide both a protective and decorative finish that enhances the overall aesthetic of the space. Attention to detail and precision in laying tiles ensures a high-quality and durable finish that perfectly suits the needs and preferences of clients.

Task & responsibilities

• Examining plans, measuring, and marking surfaces and laying out work

• Preparing wall and floor surfaces by removing old tiles, grout and adhesive, filling holes and cracks, and cleaning surfaces

• Spreading adhesive onto prepared surfaces and tiles, and setting tiles in position

• Using tile-cutting tools to cut and shape tiles needed for edges and corners, and around objects such as fittings and pipes

• Ensuring tiles are correctly aligned and spaced

• Grouting tiles and cleaning and removing excess grout

• Applying waterproofing systems

• May lay floors of granolithic, terrazzo, cement or similar composition

• May lay coloured tiles in patterns to create mosaics

• Restore old tiles by buffing and polishing

• Sealing tiles and natural stone with appropriate materials

• Sandstone cladding of core filled retaining walls

Qualification & experience

Relevant qualification at the level of a Certificate III or higher, OR at least 3 years of relevant work experience will substitute for formal qualification
