Metal Fabricator

This role involves precise measuring, cutting, assembling, and welding of metal parts to create durable, insulated, and accurately sized switchboard boxes and components. The work environment will be workshop-based. The role involves physical activity, use of cutting and welding equipment, and adherence to safety standards.

Task & responsibilities

• Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications specific to switchboard design.
• Measure, cut, bend, and shape sheet metal and metal components to exact dimensions required for switchboard enclosures.
• Assemble metal parts using welding, riveting, bolting, or other fastening methods to create switchboard frames and housings.
• Ensure metal parts meet standards for electrical safety, durability, and fit with electrical components.
• Perform finishing tasks such as grinding, polishing, and painting metal surfaces as needed.
• Work closely with electrical tradespeople to ensure switchboards meet design and safety specifications.
• Conduct quality checks on fabricated parts to maintain accuracy and compliance.
• Maintain fabrication tools, machines, and workstations in good condition.
• Follow safety protocols strictly to handle metalworking tools and materials safely.

Qualification & experience

• Experience in metal fabrication with a focus on switchboard or electrical panel enclosures.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings related to electrical switchboards.
• Proficient with welding techniques and metalworking tools.
• Strong attention to detail and quality assurance to meet electrical standards.
• Good communication skills for working with electrical engineers and trades.
• Relevant qualifications or training in metal fabrication or electrical enclosure assembly.
