The Motor Mechanic will be responsible for detecting and diagnosing faults in motor vehicle engines and other components, performing repairs, and conducting routine maintenance to ensure vehicle roadworthiness and compliance with safety and pollution regulations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical maintenance and possess the qualifications needed to perform the tasks effectively and safely.

Task & responsibilities

  • Detect and diagnose faults in motor vehicle engines, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other mechanical components.
  • Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, and other parts for repair, replacement, or overhaul.
  • Repair or replace worn and defective parts to restore vehicles to operational condition.
  • Reassemble mechanical components following technical specifications outlined in service manuals.
  • To ensure optimal performance and efficiency, perform scheduled maintenance services including oil changes, lubrications, and engine tune-ups.
  • Ensure compliance with pollution regulations during maintenance services and repairs.
  • Conduct inspections of vehicles for roadworthiness and issue necessary certifications upon passing.
  • Test and adjust mechanical systems and components post-repair to ensure proper operation.
  • Perform tyre fitting, wheel balancing, and other related maintenance services as required.
  • Utilise specialised tools and equipment to clean and maintain motor vehicle engines.
  • Refer to service manuals and technical documents for accurate repair procedures.

Qualification & experience

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in mechanical repairs, vehicle servicing, and maintenance.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in using mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to vehicle safety and performance.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of pollution regulations and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide clear reports and recommendations.
