Position

Modern switchboards require precise engineering integration of protection devices, programmable logic interfaces, power monitoring systems, and compliance with evolving regulatory standards. Dedicated technical oversight is required to ensure accuracy, safety, and performance reliability.

The Electrical Technician reports to the Workshop Supervisor / Senior Leading Hand – Electrical Fitter and Project Managers.

As a manufacturer of electrical distribution equipment, we are legally required to ensure compliance with Australian Standards and workplace safety regulations. 

The Electrical Technician plays a critical role in testing, verification, documentation, and quality assurance prior to dispatch.

The Electrical Technician provides technical support across the design, assembly, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of switchboards and associated electrical systems.

The role focuses on technical testing, compliance verification, documentation preparation, and project assistance, contributing to the safe and efficient delivery of switchboard projects in accordance with Australian standards and company quality requirements.

This position operates within an engineering and manufacturing environment and supports workshop and project teams through technical expertise and coordination.

Task & responsibilities

  • Conduct functional testing, inspection, and verification of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Assist with commissioning activities for switchboards and control systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and technical diagnostics on electrical installations and equipment.
  • Identify faults and assist with technical troubleshooting and rectification activities.
  • Assist with installation and integration of switchboards, control equipment, and associated components.
  • Support the fitting and assembly of electrical and mechanical components relevant to heavy current equipment.
  • Assist with installation of meters, relays, protection devices, instruments, and control systems.
  • Contribute to wiring and component integration activities in accordance with technical drawings and specifications.
  • Support project delivery through preparation of technical documentation, reports, and test records.
  • Assist with cost estimation activities and materials planning.
  • Provide technical input to ensure projects meet performance, quality, and compliance requirements.
  • Liaise with supervisors and project managers regarding schedules, testing outcomes, and technical issues.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, safety regulations, and company procedures.
  • Verify compliance of installations through inspection and testing processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop and project environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, PLCs, motors, transformers, and control systems.
  • Inspect, test, commission and maintain electrical installation equipment
  • Wear supplied Company Uniform and ensure PPE is used which complies to the task you are performing
  • Correctly instruct, supervise, and transfer skill to any apprentice and semi-skilled worker assigned to you to ensure safety and quality of work
  • Ensure job schedules are adhered to.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work area and ensure all tools and equipment maintained and cleaned.
  • Carry out duties as instructed by supervisor that have relevance to the workplace 
  • Loading and Delivery/Pickup of switchboards/materials
  • Communicate and implement Company policies and procedures
  • Ensure timely submission of timesheets

Qualification & experience

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical specifications, wiring and circuit diagrams, and building plans
  • Workable knowledge of computer systems
  • Relevant apprenticeship or relevant work experience
