As a key member of the property maintenance team, the Landscape Gardener undertakes skilled landscaping and horticultural tasks to construct, improve, and maintain outdoor areas across multiple client sites. Responsibilities include soil preparation and improvement, turf establishment and maintenance, planting and transplanting trees and shrubs, installing softscape elements and minor hardscape features, and performing routine maintenance such as mowing, edging, pruning, fertilising, and weed control. The role also involves monitoring plant health, identifying and treating pests and diseases, assessing tree condition, and safely operating landscaping tools and machinery while ensuring all work is completed efficiently, professionally, and in compliance with workplace health and safety standards.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Drafting landscape plans and drawings, selecting appropriate plants and materials, and coordinating construction schedules.
• Setting out project sites and installing both hardscape and softscape landscape features.
• Improving soil structure and quality through cultivation, composting, and fertilisation.
• Preparing and maintaining seedbeds and planting areas to ensure healthy growth.
• Propagating, transplanting, and establishing trees, shrubs, hedges, flowers, and bulbs.
• Preparing lawn areas by spreading topsoil, sowing grass seed, or laying instant turf.
• Constructing gravel and paved surfaces, retaining walls, fences, pergolas, ponds, barbecues, and garden furniture.
• Installing plant supports, staking systems, guards, and other protective devices.
• Maintaining lawns and landscaped areas through watering, mowing, edging, trimming, and fertilising.
• Monitoring plant health and identifying pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
• Inspecting trees to assess their condition and determine appropriate treatment.
• Pruning trees and hedges to maintain structure, health, and appearance.
• Removing tree limbs and shaping branches using chainsaws and hand tools.
• Applying sprays and treatments to control insects and diseases and safely felling hazardous or infected trees.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
• AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
• At least 1 year of relevant work experience as a Landscape Gardener
• Relevant qualification in landscaping, horticulture, or equivalent practical experience.
• Sound knowledge of plant care, turf management, and landscape construction
• Ability to safely operate landscaping tools and machinery
• Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
• Physically capable of outdoor manual work
WORKING HOURS: Full-time position, 38 hours per week.
