Position Overview:

Our client in Welshpool  is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Mechanical Fitter to support manufacturing operations, ensure reliable equipment performance, and contribute to efficient production outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial mechanical maintenance, fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment, with a demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.

Task & responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical fitting, assembly, maintenance, and repair of mesh production line equipment and associated machinery
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out breakdown, preventative, and corrective maintenance to minimise downtime
  • Set up, adjust, and commission mechanical components including drives, rollers, gearboxes, conveyors, and hydraulic systems
  • Lead and coordinate daily tasks of fitters and trade assistants on the mesh line
  • Provide on-the-job guidance and mentoring to team members, ensuring work is completed safely and to specification
  • Liaise with production supervisors to prioritise maintenance activities and support production targets
  • Ensure all work complies with site safety procedures, lock-out/tag-out requirements, and OH&S regulations
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts usage documentation
  • Assist with installation and modification of plant and equipment to improve reliability and efficiency
  • Promote continuous improvement in maintenance practices, safety, and housekeeping

Qualification & experience

  • Australian-recognised trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing industrial manufacturing equipment, preferably within steel, mesh, or heavy manufacturing environments
  • Proven experience in a leading hand or senior fitter role coordinating daily work activities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude including bearings, shafts, drives, hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical specifications
  • Sound understanding of workplace safety systems and maintenance best practices
  • Strong communication skills with a hands-on, team-focused approach
