The purpose of this role is to recruit a qualified and experienced Retail Manager for Apna Indian Bazaar (Shree Sahajanand Retail Pty Ltd) in Canberra, ACT. This full-time position is responsible for overseeing and managing the overall retail store operations, ensuring efficient performance, profitability, and compliance with business standards. The role supports the delivery of high-quality customer service, effective staff and inventory management, and contributes to the business’s ongoing growth, including expansion into online grocery delivery and in-store food services. The position requires strong leadership, organisational skills, and relevant experience in a dynamic retail environment.
Apna Indian Bazaar is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Retail Manager to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of its retail store. This role is responsible for planning, organising, directing, controlling, and coordinating all store activities to ensure operational efficiency, high customer satisfaction, and sustained business growth.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan, organise, direct, control, and coordinate the overall retail operations of Apna Indian Bazaar to ensure efficient day-to-day business performance
• Analyse customer purchasing patterns and market trends to determine product mix, stock levels, pricing strategies, and service standards in line with customer demand
• Develop and implement marketing, promotional, advertising, and seasonal campaign strategies to increase customer engagement, sales revenue, and business growth
• Establish and monitor purchasing procedures, negotiate with suppliers and wholesalers, and manage vendor relationships to ensure competitive pricing, product quality, and timely stock availability
• Monitor sales performance, prepare operational and financial reports, manage store budgets, and implement cost-control measures to maximise profitability and operational efficiency
• Oversee inventory management, stock control, point-of-sale (POS) systems, cash handling procedures, daily reconciliations, and visual merchandising standards to support smooth store operations
• Recruit, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff performance, prepare staff rosters, allocate duties, and monitor workforce productivity to maintain high operational standards
• Ensure high levels of customer service by responding to customer enquiries, complaints, and feedback professionally while maintaining positive customer relationships and retention
• Implement and enforce workplace health and safety (WHS) procedures, food handling requirements, retail trading regulations, security measures, and company policies to ensure compliance and minimise business risks
• Identify opportunities for business development, operational improvement, online retail expansion, and revenue growth while maintaining effective communication with directors, staff, suppliers, and customers to support ongoing business success
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
• AQF Diploma or higher in Business, Management, or a related field
• At least 1-2 years of relevant work experience in retail or store management is required
• Proven experience in retail operations, preferably in grocery or supermarket environments
• Strong leadership skills with experience in staff supervision and team management
• Knowledge of inventory control, stock management, and daily store operations
• Ability to manage rostering, basic budgeting, and sales reporting
• Proficiency in basic computer applications, with strong communication and customer service skills
WORKING HOURS
Full-time position, 38 hours per week.
