Media and Communications Officer

Tell the stories that matter-and shape a community's future!

  • Base salary $89,320 – $103,583 per year + super

  • 9-day fortnight (one paid RDO per fortnight)

  • Permanent full-time role

  • Subsidised furnished accommodation maybe considered

This is a rare opportunity to shape the voice of a regional council and make a genuine impact across one of Queensland's most characterful outback communities. Reporting into the Community Services & Wellbeing team, you'll lead communications, media and grant coordination. — telling the stories that matter and connecting community with Council.

What you'll own:

  • Development and delivery of Council's communications and media strategy

  • Content creation across digital, media and community channels

  • Management of Council's online and social media presence

  • Grant identification, application writing and acquittal reporting

  • Stakeholder engagement with community groups, media outlets and funding bodies

  • Communications support for key projects, events and priority initiatives

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. Media and Communications, Journalism, Community Development, Business or similar) and/or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in communications and digital engagement, including content development across media, social and online platforms.

  • Experience preparing and managing grant applications, including coordination, reporting and acquittals (or the demonstrated ability to acquire this capability).

  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proven organisational and time management skills.

  • Understanding of, or capacity to quickly develop knowledge of, Local Government policies, legislative requirements and ethical standards relevant to the role.

  • Current unrestricted C Class driver’s licence, with the ability to travel as required.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and digital communications tools.

  • Current QLD Class C Driver's licence.
