The purpose of the Truck Driver role at N & K Pavlovich Cartage Contractors Pty Ltd is to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of goods in line with company standards and regulatory requirements. This role supports the organisation’s cartage and logistics operations by maintaining vehicle safety, complying with workplace health and safety regulations, and ensuring freight is delivered securely and accurately while upholding a high standard of professionalism and reliability.
The Truck Driver at N & K Pavlovich Cartage Contractors Pty Ltd is responsible for operating heavy vehicles to transport goods across designated routes while complying with all road safety and transport regulations. The role involves loading and unloading freight, conducting vehicle inspections, securing cargo, verifying delivery documentation, and maintaining accurate records. The driver is also required to monitor vehicle performance, report any issues promptly, and work closely with management to ensure efficient delivery operations and customer satisfaction.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Move vehicles into their assigned locations safely to facilitate effective loading and unloading.
• Using authorised lifting, tipping, and handling equipment, load and unload items in compliance with business protocols.
• During all loading, unloading, and transportation operations, strictly adhere to workplace health and safety laws.
• Conduct regular pre-start and ongoing vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and safe operation.
• Assess and estimate load weights to comply with legal load limits and ensure correct weight distribution.
• To avoid damage, loss, or movement during shipment, properly secure, store, and cover all freight.
• Check the products' condition, confirm the delivery paperwork, and get any necessary signatures or confirmations.
• To guarantee prompt and effective delivery of goods, plan and adhere to designated delivery routes.
• Maintain accurate records of deliveries, vehicle checks, and any incidents or delays encountered.
• Notify management or the appropriate supervisors right away of any vehicle flaws, safety hazards, or delivery problems.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
• AQF Certificate II or III
• Minimum 1 year of truck driving experience
• Be at least 21 years old for interstate driving or 18 for intrastate driving.
• Hold a valid standard driver’s licence.
• Pass written knowledge tests covering road signs, safety regulations, and driving rules.
• Complete a practical driving test to demonstrate your ability to operate a truck safely.
• Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination to ensure you are medically fit to drive.
• Undergo a background check, with a clean driving record and no serious criminal convictions.
• Acquire additional endorsements, if necessary, such as for hazardous materials, tank vehicles, or multiple trailers.
• Meet vision and hearing requirements and be free from medical conditions that could impair driving ability.
• Consider attending a truck driving school for specialised training and preparation for the CDL tests.
WORKING HOURS: Full-time position, 38 hours per week.
