We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team in the role of Applications Engineer. This role involves reviewing and evaluating technical information, including engineering specifications, to develop solutions tailored to specific application requirements. Based on this evaluation, you will undertake detailed engineering design, followed by supporting cost estimation based on engineering design inputs to suit specific application requirements.  The role requires independent application of mechanical engineering judgement, including responsibility for design outcomes and technical decision-making within defined project requirements.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role involves effective internal collaboration with production, supply chain and commercial teams, including providing technical engineering support in relation to design, performance, and implementation of mechanical systems. This role is primarily focused on mechanical engineering design, analysis, and technical decision-making, with commercial and client interface activities supporting these core engineering functions.  The role operates within an industrial manufacturing environment requiring the application of mechanical engineering principles to custom-designed thermal and process systems.

Key Responsibilities:

The Applications Engineer is responsible for evaluating application information in order to perform planning and design of bespoke process heating equipment to meet specific application requirements. This role ensures that equipment developed is efficient, safe, technically robust and cost effective.

The role applies mechanical engineering principles to develop and refine equipment and systems for industrial heating applications and requires the application of sound engineering judgement to ensure designs meet performance expectations, safety requirements, and applicable standards.

The position operates within a multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing environment. It involves close collaboration with production, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure engineering solutions are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with customer and industry requirements.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting and evaluating technical documentation, engineering specifications and technical standards
  • Perform detailed engineering design, calculations, and technical evaluation of process heating systems, including responsibility for engineering decisions and design outcomes, for use in both industrial process and manufacturing environments
  • Preparation of engineering specification documents, including data sheets and functional design specifications, to define equipment function, physical layout, product capacity and materials of construction.
  • Contribute to cost estimation activities based on engineering design and material selection
  • Supporting the early-stage development of process systems, mechanical equipment, and components, while contributing to the development of plant layouts and production systems for industrial and manufacturing settings.
  • Through the evaluation of operational and production data, optimise product design to achieve high levels of engineering performance, operational efficiency, or cost effectiveness, including modification or improvement of existing mechanical and process heating systems
  • Provide engineering support across the equipment lifecycle, including design validation, installation support, commissioning, and technical performance evaluation

Qualification and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher education, in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in industrial engineering, with a strong background in mechanical design and process optimisation.
  • Have been employed in the occupation for at least 3 years on a full-time basis and at the level of skill required for the occupation.
  • Familiarity with the manufacturing industry, especially in sectors such as HVAC&R, Mining, Oil and Gas.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess operational data, evaluating information, complex problem solving skills and make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in designing mechanical systems and components for manufacturing and construction.
  • A commitment to adhering to quality assurance standards and safety regulations in all aspects of engineering operations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and motivate the team, liaise, and collaborate with other departments and management personnel.
  • Ability to lead by example - displaying a common sense, practical, hardworking, hands-on, and ethical attitude.
  • Personal qualities in keeping with the company culture such as customer focused, technically orientated, dedicated, unified, and autonomous.

You will join a team of approximately 32 employees, all committed to growing as a successful manufacturing company. If you are ready to become part of our dynamic team, send your resume today.
