Help Protect Martu Culture and Country Through Quality Information Management
Jamukurnu-Yapalikurnu Aboriginal Corporation (JYAC) is the Prescribed Body Corporate representing the Martu People, the Traditional Owners of a vast area of the Western Desert. We work alongside Martu to protect culture, manage country, support economic opportunities and uphold Native Title rights and interests across Martu ngurra.
We are seeking an organised and detail-oriented Database Officer to support the management of critical heritage, environmental, land access and tenure information that helps inform decision-making and protects Martu cultural heritage.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager – Heritage and Landscape, the Database Officer is responsible for the administration, maintenance and continuous improvement of JYAC's Environmental Systems Solutions (ESS) database.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and accessibility of heritage, land management, tenure, membership and environmental information. Working closely with Martu people, Rangers, heritage professionals and external stakeholders, you will help ensure reliable information is available to support heritage protection, land management and compliance activities.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain the day-to-day operation of the Environmental Systems Solutions (ESS) database.
Ensure database records are accurate, secure, current and maintained to best-practice standards.
Undertake data entry, record updates and legacy data clean-up activities.
Monitor and improve data quality through validation, auditing and duplicate management.
Produce reports, data extracts and information summaries for operational and organisational reporting.
Support data imports, exports and routine data processing requirements.
Develop and maintain database procedures, documentation and user guides.
Deliver user training and provide ongoing support to staff and stakeholders.
Assist with database enhancements, testing and system improvements.
Support the management and integration of GIS and spatial information.
Respond to database-related enquiries from staff, consultants and external stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with privacy, information management and legislative requirements.

You are highly organised, analytical and enjoy working with complex information systems. You have a strong eye for detail and take pride in maintaining high-quality data that supports meaningful outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Essential Requirements
Relevant tertiary qualification or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Demonstrated experience administering databases and maintaining data integrity.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users.
Demonstrated cultural awareness and ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal people and communities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing competing priorities.
Understanding of privacy, compliance and information management requirements.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Qualification or experience in anthropology, archaeology, environmental science, land management or a related discipline.
Experience working with Aboriginal heritage, Indigenous land management or Native Title matters.
Knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 and related legislation.
Understanding of Native Title processes and obligations.
Experience reviewing heritage reports and associated documentation.
Experience using GIS applications, particularly QGIS.
Experience managing spatial datasets and integrating GIS information with database systems.
