McArthur is currently seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to support a major local government organisation with the planning, procurement and delivery of complex fleet, plant and technology projects.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong background in fleet, plant, heavy vehicles, infrastructure, asset management, transport innovation or technical project delivery. The role will support projects that improve safety, compliance, reliability, sustainability and whole-of-life value across a diverse operational fleet.

Based at a Western Sydney depot, this position will suit a hands-on project professional who can work closely with operational teams, technical stakeholders, suppliers and senior leaders to deliver practical and measurable outcomes.

About the Role

In this role, you will lead and support the delivery of fleet, plant and innovation projects across areas such as heavy vehicle replacement, civil plant, refuse vehicles, EV and hydrogen trials, charging infrastructure, telematics, workshop digitisation and vendor performance management.

You will be responsible for preparing project documentation, developing business cases, managing procurement activity, overseeing supplier performance, supporting compliance requirements and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with relevant governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

  • Leading the planning, delivery and reporting of technical fleet and plant projects
  • Preparing project briefs, business cases, schedules, budgets, risk registers and status reports
  • Developing technical specifications for heavy vehicles, plant, equipment and associated systems
  • Supporting procurement processes, including tender documentation, evaluation criteria and supplier engagement
  • Managing supplier performance against safety, quality, cost, uptime and sustainability measures
  • Supporting fleet innovation projects, including EV and hydrogen trials, charging infrastructure and telematics
  • Applying life-cycle costing and asset management principles to support value-for-money outcomes
  • Ensuring compliance with heavy vehicle, safety, procurement, WHS and local government requirements
  • Coordinating inspections, commissioning, acceptance testing, training and handover activities
  • Preparing reports, briefings and presentations for internal stakeholders and senior leaders

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Experience delivering fleet, plant, infrastructure, transport, asset or technical projects
  • Strong understanding of heavy vehicles, plant, workshop operations or fleet asset management
  • Experience working within a safety-focused, operational or compliance-driven environment
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, including specifications, tender documentation and evaluation frameworks
  • Ability to manage project budgets, schedules, risks, issues and reporting requirements
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly
  • Data literacy, including exposure to telematics, dashboards, asset systems or digital reporting tools
  • Current Class C driver licence

Highly Regarded

The following will be highly regarded but are not essential:

  • Local government or public sector experience
  • Knowledge of HVNL, NHVR Chain of Responsibility, PBS, ADR or heavy vehicle compliance
  • Experience with refuse collection vehicles, sweepers, civil plant or similar equipment
  • Project management qualifications such as PRINCE2, PMP or equivalent
  • Exposure to EV, hydrogen, charging infrastructure or fleet sustainability projects
  • Experience with TechOne, CiAnywhere, EAM, CMMS or similar systems
  • Construction White Card

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to work on meaningful and future-focused fleet and technology projects that will directly support operational efficiency, safety, sustainability and service delivery across a major local government environment.

You will be joining a role where your technical knowledge, project delivery experience and ability to work with operational teams will make a genuine impact.
