An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia’s submarine company and the sustainer of Australia’s conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines under the AUKUS partnership. 

To deliver on this significant program of work, we are seeking a skilled People and Technical Leader - Engineering to support a group of deployment leads and guide engineers and radiological control professionals undertaking long-term training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. 

You will bring strong communication skills and a strong grasp of the technical and theoretical requirements relevant to your qualification, whether in medical science or engineering. You will also be able to operate autonomously in a complex, dynamic environment. A solid understanding of safety process management within operational settings, together with excellent time‑management and organisational skills, will be essential. 

This placement is expected to commence in mid to late 2026 and run for approximately two years. 

Responsibilities  

As a People and Technical Leader - Engineering, you will: 

  • Support the team in setting clear, actionable goals aligned with strategic objectives 
  • Identify, assess and resolve potential risks to the program and its personnel 
  • Report to the International Training Support Manager, and provide feedback that supports the establishment of clear and consistent guardrails 
  • Mentor and guide team members, equipping them with the tools, support, and expertise needed to achieve their professional goals  
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team culture 

Eligibility Criteria 

The successful applicant must possess:  

  • A bachelor's degree in medical science, engineering (mechanical or electrical preferred), or similar 
  • Demonstrated experience supporting operational delivery within a complex program environment 
  • Proven experience leading and developing a team of trade professionals 
  • Australian Citizenship 
  • The ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 Defence security clearance 

Additional Details 

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines at HMAS Stirling.  

Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.  

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
