Your next opportunity

Asia Pacific Aerospace (APA) is a CASA/EASA Part-145 approved facility specialising in the overhaul, repair and component restoration of aeronautical gas turbine engines. We support Rolls-Royce and GE engine programs with repair design, thermal spray coatings, metallurgical assessment and precision tooling. Our engineering team works at the technical edge of what can be safely and economically returned to service — turning damaged, out-of-spec components back into airworthy hardware.

We're seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of repair engineering and process development across the workshop.

The Role

This is a hands-on engineering position bridging the design office and the shop floor. You'll be responsible for developing and substantiating component repair schemes, owning and improving our thermal spray coating processes, and designing the fixturing and tooling that makes those repairs repeatable and compliant. You'll work directly with the workshop, quality, and the customer to take a repair from concept through to a qualified, documented process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, substantiate and document component repair schemes for gas turbine hardware, including the metallurgical and structural justification for return-to-service decisions.
  • Own and optimise thermal spray coating processes — plasma spray operations (9MB and similar), and structured process trials to qualify coatings on a range of substrates.
  • Design fixturing, tooling and process aids in SolidWorks, producing fully toleranced drawings to ASME Y14.5 (GD&T).
  • Disposition non-conforming and damaged components, defining repair limits, welding/brazing strategies, and post-weld heat treatment within Part-145 constraints.
  • Plan and run process trials and validation work, capturing results in formal internal test and engineering reports.
  • Collaborate with quality and production to ensure repair processes are robust, compliant and transferable to the shop floor.
  • Maintain and improve engineering and quality documentation supporting repair processes and approvals.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace or a related engineering discipline.
  • Approximately 3+ years' experience in repair engineering, manufacturing engineering, MRO or a comparable hands-on engineering environment.
  • Sound knowledge of materials and metallurgy
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD) and confident application of GD&T / ASME Y14.5.
  • Strong written communication and the ability to organise complex technical information into clear specifications and reports.
  • Methodical, detail-focused approach to process development and problem solving.

Desirable

  • Direct experience with thermal spray / plasma spray operations and coating qualification.
  • Exposure to a regulated aerospace environment (CASA, EASA, FAA or equivalent Part-145 / Part-21).
  • Familiarity with metallographic techniques and interpreting microstructure.
  • Experience producing controlled engineering and quality documentation.

Why Join Us

  • Genuine technical ownership — you'll lead repair and process engineering, not just support it.
  • A varied workload spanning materials, design, process development and shop-floor problem solving.
  • Work on demanding, high-value gas turbine hardware in an established Part-145 facility.
  • A supportive, hands-on engineering team where good ideas get tried.
  • A generous internal incentive program
  • Uniforms, tools and training provided
