Dantel Communications Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced and motivated Fibre Splicer / Telecommunications Cable Jointer to join our growing telecommunications team. This role is suited to a candidate with demonstrated experience in fibre optic cable splicing, testing, and telecommunications infrastructure works across both indoor and outdoor environments.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of telecommunications projects by performing fibre optic cable splicing, termination, testing, and maintenance activities while ensuring compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and workplace safety requirements.

Location: The role will involve work at various project sites across Queensland and New South Wales and may include work in other Australian states where required.

Employment Type: Full-time

Working Hours: Ordinary hours of work will generally be up to 40 hours per week, typically worked Monday to Friday, with guaranteed overtime of minimum 1.5 hours per week. Due to the project-based nature of telecommunications construction, you may be required to work reasonable additional hours, including weekends or extended hours, where operational requirements require.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fibre optic cable splicing and termination works in accordance with telecommunications industry standards and project specifications.
  • Read and interpret network splicing diagrams, plans, and engineering documentation.
  • Conduct fibre optic testing using OTDR, power meters, ORL, CD, and PMD testing equipment.
  • Install, terminate, and maintain fibre optic cables in underground, aerial, and indoor telecommunications environments.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate field notes, records, and documentation relating to fibre assignments and project activities.
  • Identify and troubleshoot faults within fibre optic networks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Liaise with project managers and supervisors regarding technical requirements and scheduling of fibre optic works.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety procedures and customer site requirements.
  • Liaise with contractors and internal teams regarding fibre optic task sequencing and technical specifications to support project delivery.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in fibre optic cable splicing and telecommunications cable jointing.
  • Knowledge of single fusion, mass fusion, and mechanical splicing methods.
  • Experience using fibre optic testing equipment including OTDR and power meter testing.
  • Understanding of telecommunications outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) infrastructure and construction practices.
  • Familiarity with splice enclosures, termination panels, and fibre optic network design principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, splice diagrams, and telecommunications records.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant full-time work experience in telecommunications cable jointing, fibre splicing, or related telecommunications infrastructure works.
  • Relevant trade qualification or industry experience aligned with ANZSCO 342412 – Telecommunications Cable Jointer is highly regarded.
  • Current driver’s licence preferred.
