Computer System Technician

The Engineering Technologist will work primarily in the field supporting the construction, upgrade, and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure across nbn network projects.This role involves providing on-site technical supervision, assisting installation teams, performing quality inspections, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring all civil and fibre works comply with engineering specifications, nbn standards, and workplace safety regulations.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Provide on-site technical support and supervision during telecommunications infrastructure construction and maintenance works.</li><li>Conduct site inspections and verify site conditions prior to commencement of construction activities.</li><li>Supervise and guide field crews performing trenching, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), pit installation, pipe proving, fibre hauling, splicing, and testing activities.</li><li>Ensure all works comply with telecommunications engineering standards, project specifications, and safety requirements.</li><li>Perform field quality inspections and identify defects for rectification.</li><li>Troubleshoot issues related to fibre optic networks, conduits, pits, and other telecommunications infrastructure components.</li><li>Review and verify installation of infrastructure such as pits (P5, P6), conduits, fibre cables, and associated equipment.</li><li>Conduct fibre optic testing using telecommunications test equipment including OTDR and fibre power meters.</li><li>Interpret telecommunications network plans, construction drawings, and technical documentation.</li><li>Prepare field reports, inspection documentation, and as-built records.</li><li>Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and stakeholders regarding site progress and technical matters.</li><li>Identify potential risks and implement corrective actions where required.</li><li>Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, SWMS procedures, and hazard management practices.</li></ul>Qualifications and Experience<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Engineering Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field.</li><li>Minimum 1 years of relevant industry experience in telecommunications infrastructure or network deployment projects.</li><li>Knowledge of telecommunications network technologies including FTTP, FTTN, and HFC.</li><li>Practical experience in fibre optic installation, civil construction works, and telecommunications infrastructure deployment.</li><li>Ability to read and interpret telecommunications network designs and engineering drawings.</li><li>Experience using fibre optic testing equipment such as OTDR and fibre power meters.</li><li>Understanding of Australian WHS and construction safety requirements.</li><li>Strong problem-solving, technical analysis, and communication skills.</li><li>Valid driver licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.</li></ul>Benefits:<ul><li>Company car</li><li>Salary packaging</li></ul>
