About the role
To act as the dedicated HR and development liaison for an assigned group of vessels. This role is responsible for executing the fleet-wide crew talent and retention programs, managing the full employee life cycle from strategic recruitment and selection through performance management, compensation administration, and ensuring crew adherence to company policy and compliance standards.
The Crewing Officer reports directly to the Team Leader Crewing, receiving guidance on functional leadership to maintain cultural alignment, meet operational needs, and implement development strategies. The Crewing Officer is the main point of contact for their assigned vessels on all personnel matters, ensuring seamless execution by collaborating closely with the operational team (Crew Planner/Coordinator).
Core Activities
· Own and execute all recruitment activities (core, ad-hoc, pipeline, cadetship), focusing on hiring candidates who will shape and fit the desired culture on board.
· Provide strategic workforce planning input to Crew Planners from a people, performance, and continuity perspective.
· Coordinate new hire onboarding with the crewing team, ensuring the process emphasizes cultural integration and core values from day one.
· Track and facilitate the annual crew performance review cycle for crew ensuring timely completion by the reviewing managers.
· Actively participate in the performance review and talent discussions for Masters & Chief Engineers, providing functional input on career pathways and succession readiness.
· Drive succession planning for critical vessel roles by identifying high-potential crew members and managing their training and development.
· Develop and track specific Performance Development Plans (PDPs) for underperforming crew members in coordination with the relevant reviewing manager to address competence gaps and drive necessary behavioral changes.
· Maintain and apply competence frameworks and support the definition and implementation of the Crewing Job Family and career paths.
About you
Your success in securing this role will require:
Bachelor’s degree in human resources
4+ years crew management experience
Essential knowledge of STCW, MLC, ISM, ISPS, CBA, Flag state regulations
