Position Summary

The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality meals, maintaining food safety standards, assisting with menu planning, and ensuring consistency in food preparation and presentation. The successful candidate will work closely with kitchen staff to deliver an exceptional dining experience to customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, season and cook a variety of Indian dishes including dosas, curries, biryanis, rice dishes, vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals in accordance with established recipes and quality standards.

• Examine food ingredients and prepared dishes to ensure quality, freshness, taste, presentation and portion consistency.

• Prepare and cook food to meet customer dietary requirements and special requests where applicable.

• Assist in planning menus and estimating food and labour costs in consultation with management.

• Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering, receiving and storing food supplies.

• Ensure proper storage, handling and rotation of food products to maintain freshness and minimise wastage.

• Maintain a clean, hygienic and organised kitchen environment in compliance with food safety regulations.

• Inspect kitchen equipment, work areas and food preparation processes to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

• Assist in training and supervising junior kitchen staff where required.

• Follow workplace health and safety procedures and maintain compliance with all relevant food hygiene standards.

• Collaborate with management and kitchen team members to ensure efficient kitchen operations during busy service periods.

• Contribute to the development of new menu items and seasonal specials.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.

• At least 2 years of relevant full-time work experience as a Cook (or 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of formal qualifications).

• Demonstrated experience preparing Indian cuisine, particularly South Indian dishes such as dosas, idlis, uttapams and traditional curries.

• Sound knowledge of food preparation techniques, food safety practices and kitchen operations.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment.

• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

• Commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality and customer satisfaction.
