The successful candidate will play a key role in the daily kitchen operations and assist in maintaining high food quality and service standards. The role requires a strong understanding of commercial kitchen operations, food safety compliance, and the ability to work efficiently during busy service periods.

Task & responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and present high-quality meals in accordance with menu standards
• Plan and contribute to menu development and seasonal specials
• Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation standards
• Estimate food and labour costs and assist with stock ordering and inventory control
• Maintain hygiene, food safety, and workplace health and safety standards
• Supervise kitchen operations during service periods
• Demonstrate cooking techniques and support junior kitchen staff
• Work collaboratively with management and front-of-house staff
• Minimise food wastage and maintain efficient kitchen operations
• Ensure all dishes are prepared consistently and delivered on time
• Assist with preserving and storing food appropriately
• Maintain a clean, organised, and professional kitchen environment

Qualification & experience

• Diploma in Kitchen Management or relevant qualification
• Minimum 12 months of experience preparing and cooking dishes relevant to the Lake View Hotel Bendigo cuisine and menu style in a commercial kitchen environment
• Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills
• Availability to work flexible shifts including weekends and evenings
• Passion for quality food and customer service
