EVANSHI & ELAHI PTY LTD trading as AAVJO Indian Cuisine is seeking a skilled and experienced Chef to join its kitchen team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for menu planning, food preparation, cooking authentic Indian cuisine, supervising kitchen staff, and maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, and food safety in a busy restaurant environment.

Task & responsibilities

  • Plan menus and develop authentic Indian dishes in consultation with management
  • Prepare, cook and present a variety of Indian curries, tandoori dishes, breads, rice dishes and accompaniments to a high standard
  • Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation, cooking and presentation
  • Demonstrate cooking techniques and provide guidance to Cooks and junior kitchen staff
  • Supervise food preparation processes and coordinate kitchen activities during service periods
  • Estimate food requirements and assist with food and labour cost control
  • Monitor stock levels, check food deliveries and ensure appropriate storage of ingredients and supplies
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, HACCP, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen and food preparation areas
  • Collaborate with management and front-of-house staff to deliver an exceptional dining experience

Qualification & experience

  • Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery and Diploma of Hospitality Management (or equivalent qualification)
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience working as a Chef in an Indian restaurant environment
  • Strong knowledge of authentic Indian cuisine, spices, tandoor cooking and traditional food preparation techniques
  • Excellent knowledge of commercial kitchen procedures and operations
  • Sound understanding of food safety, HACCP and kitchen compliance requirements
  • Strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends and public holidays
