$75,000 - $80,000 Annual

As a Commis Chef at the Merrimac Tavern, you will be preparing, cooking and presenting quality meals in a dynamic hospitality environment.  You will also assist with maintaining food safety standards, menu planning, stock levels and the development of specials while working with the team to deliver consistent service during lunch and dinner periods.  There is a requirement to work evenings, split shifts, weekends and public holidays.

Task & responsibilities

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and present quality meals efficiently, and in accordance with the tavern's recipes and orders

• Fulfills their part to ensure freshness and consistency at all stages of preparation, portion control and presentation

• Have input into the planning of menus and development of daily/seasonal specials

• Monitor stock levels and stock quality, assist in ordering and minimising costs eg wastage and rotating stock 

• Positively communicate with all team members to ensure a cooperative team environment 

• Keep a clean, organised and compliant kitchen environment

• Ensure all work practises comply with workplace health and safety procedures


Qualification & experience

Requirements

• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery and Diploma of Hospitality  or equivalent qualification

• Minimum 12 months of relevant work experience as a Chef

• Strong knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety

• Ability to work evenings, split shifts, weekends and public holidays

• Reliable, organised and team focused

Merrimac Tavern

The Merrimac is a “suburban pub” that attracts people from the local area and includes families, seniors, sporting groups and other community people and groups. The Merrimac offers a sport bar with TAB and Keno facilities, Bistro, Bottleshop, a Detached Bottleshop and a gaming room. The bistro seats around 100 people and is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week and a small kitchen team prepares, cooks and produces the meals on an a la carte basis.
