Role Overview

Adrenalin Snorkel and Dive is seeking an experienced Senior Dive Instructor / Coxswain to join our team in Townsville, Queensland. This hands-on role combines scuba instruction, customer service, and marine tourism, delivering exceptional experiences on the Great Barrier Reef, Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA), and SS Yongala Wreck.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting scuba diving activities and training, ensuring guest safety, maintaining equipment, and contributing to the day-to-day operation of our marine tourism business. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, professionalism, environmental stewardship, and outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct PADI scuba diving courses and introductory diving experiences
  • Guide certified divers and snorkellers in open water environments
  • Deliver safety briefings and environmental presentations
  • Supervise guests during diving and snorkelling activities
  • Assist with vessel preparation, maintenance, loading, and cleaning
  • Maintain scuba equipment and ensure operational readiness
  • Mentor Divemaster trainees and junior team members
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide first aid when required
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to domestic and international guests

Task & responsibilities

  • Conduct PADI scuba diving courses from entry-level through to professional-level programs in accordance with PADI Standards and Procedures.
  • Deliver Discover Scuba Diving experiences and supervise certified divers in open water environments.
  • Lead guided scuba diving and snorkelling tours at the Great Barrier Reef, SS Yongala, and Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA).
  • Conduct passenger safety briefings, emergency procedures, and environmental awareness presentations.
  • Monitor weather, sea conditions, and operational risks to ensure safe trip delivery.
  • Supervise guests during water-based activities and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Respond to emergencies and administer first aid, oxygen, and emergency management procedures where required.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise Divemaster trainees, instructor candidates, and junior crew members.
  • Assist with crew scheduling, trip preparation, and daily operational planning.
  • Maintain scuba diving equipment, compressors, cylinders, and vessel equipment to operational standards.
  • Conduct pre-departure vessel checks and ensure compliance with Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Assist with vessel handling, mooring operations, navigation, lookout duties, and passenger management.
  • Maintain accurate training records, dive logs, equipment maintenance records, and incident reports.
  • Promote marine conservation and environmentally responsible diving practices.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to domestic and international guests.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, cleaning, and general maintenance of vessels and dive equipment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives relating to safety, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
  • Represent the company professionally and uphold the organisation's reputation as a leading Great Barrier Reef tourism operator.

Qualification & experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Current PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification 
  • Current Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency (or higher)
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Current Oxygen Provider certification
  • Current Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
  • Current professional diving medical certificate 

Essential Experience

  • Minimum three years' experience working as a scuba diving instructor in a commercial tourism or training environment
  • Demonstrated experience conducting scuba diving courses, introductory diving programs, and guided diving activities
  • Experience operating commercial vessels in accordance with AMSA regulations and safe operating procedures
  • Strong understanding of dive safety, risk management, and emergency response procedures
  • Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service to domestic and international guests
  • Experience working effectively within a team environment and supervising water-based activities

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • PADI Specialty Instructor ratings
  • PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) rating
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) or equivalent
  • Experience working on the Great Barrier Reef or within the marine tourism industry
  • Experience mentoring Divemaster trainees or junior instructional staff
  • Additional language skills
  • Experience with vessel maintenance, equipment servicing, and marine operations
