The Tea Rooms 1892, (La Creperie Saint – German Pty Ltd (The Trustee for the Mount Buffalo Trust))is a heritage café located in the iconic Block Arcade at 282 Collins Street, Melbourne. Known for its elegant interiors and high tea experience, the café offers a premium selection of handcrafted cakes, pastries, and savoury dishes, attracting both local and international visitors. With a commitment to quality, tradition, and exceptional customer service, The Tea Rooms 1892 continues a legacy that began over a century ago.
Commissioned by Melbourne's City Property Company, the arcade was modelled after Milan's Galleria Vittorio, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship, including a stunning glass roof and intricate Italian mosaics. The tea rooms, initially housed under the arcade's dome, became a popular haunt for Victorian ladies in the late 19th century, eventually relocating to their current spot in 1907. Named after Lady Hopetoun, founder of the Victorian Ladies' Work Association, the tea rooms have retained their old-world charm, with decor elements such as emerald wallpaper, ornate mirrors, and fine bone China reminiscent of bygone eras. Today, they continue the tradition of serving high tea, cakes, and sandwiches, offering patrons a nostalgic journey through time.
