Description:

The New Whyalla Hotel is seeking a skilled and passionate Chef to join its kitchen team. The venue is known for serving quality meals in a welcoming hospitality environment, offering a diverse menu prepared with fresh ingredients and consistent standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and presenting high-quality dishes, maintaining consistency in taste and presentation, and ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are followed at all times. The Chef will work closely with the team to support smooth kitchen operations and deliver excellent dining experiences to customers. Previous experience in a similar role and a passion for cooking are essential.

Task & responsibilities

  • Plan menus and estimate food, labour, and operational costs
  • Order and manage food supplies and kitchen inventory
  • Monitor the quality of dishes during all stages of preparation and presentation
  • Discuss food preparation matters with managers, dietitians, kitchen staff, and service staff
  • Demonstrate cooking techniques and provide guidance on food preparation procedures
  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes and standards
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations
  • Assist with the selection, supervision, and training of kitchen staff
  • Freeze, store, and preserve food items in accordance with food handling standards

Qualification & experience

  • Minimum of Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent work experience. 
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in related position.
  • In-depth knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen operations. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
