About the Role

IKARIA is seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our busy kitchen team in Bondi. The successful applicant will work in a fast-paced hospitality environment, assisting the Chef in preparing and presenting high-quality meals while maintaining excellent food safety and kitchen standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare all food items as directed in a timely manner.
• Prepare and cook meats, fish, vegetables, and sauces.
• Ensure food is appropriately seasoned and prepared to a high standard.
• Serve food in appropriate portions, including plating and garnishing dishes.
• Prepare meals for customers with food allergies or dietary intolerances.
• Maintain high standards of food quality by checking cooked food, stock quality, and food temperatures.
• Operate cooking equipment, including ovens and grills, and regulate temperatures as required.
• Store food appropriately in temperature-controlled storage areas using suitable containers and trays.
• Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and organisation of the kitchen, cool room, and storage areas.
• Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications set by the Chef.
• Remain productive during service and prepare for upcoming kitchen requirements where possible.
• Contribute ideas and suggestions to the Chef during menu planning.
• Assist with training apprentices and other kitchen staff when required.
• Restock kitchen items and supplies before and after shifts.
• Report equipment maintenance issues, breakages, or poor-quality stock to the Chef promptly.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of relevant work experience as a Cook or in a similar role
• AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or equivalent OR relevant experience of at least 3 years may substitute for formal qualifications where applicable
• Strong knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety practices
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Availability to work weekends and flexible shifts
