OHD Cafe Point Cook is seeking a skilled and experienced Chef to join our growing kitchen team. The role involves overseeing food preparation and cooking operations while ensuring high standards of food quality, presentation, and hygiene are consistently maintained. You will be responsible for preparing and cooking a diverse range of dishes, coordinating kitchen activities during service periods, monitoring stock and food quality, and supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the kitchen. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Chef to further develop their culinary expertise in a fast-paced, professional, and supportive hospitality environment

Task & responsibilities

  • Plan menus and estimate food and labour costs in consultation with management
  • Prepare, season and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes and restaurant standards
  • Supervise and coordinate kitchen operations during service periods to ensure efficient workflow and timely food preparation
  • Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation to ensure consistency and high standards
  • Prepare ingredients for cooking including washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, marinating, and portioning food items
  • Regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers, and other cooking equipment to ensure food is cooked correctly and safely
  • Inspect food supplies and raw ingredients to ensure freshness, quality, and compliance with food safety standards
  • Maintain stock control, rotate stock in accordance with FIFO procedures, and assist with ordering kitchen supplies as required
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace health and safety regulations at all times
  • Train and supervise kitchen staff where required and assist in maintaining a productive team environment
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen areas, equipment, utensils, and storage facilities
  • Minimise food wastage through effective preparation techniques, portion control, and proper storage practice

Qualification & experience

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in a commercial kitchen environment
  • Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification preferred
  • Strong understanding of food safety standards and kitchen hygiene practices
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Good communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to multitask and maintain attention to detail during busy service periods
