We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cook to join our team at Uncle Ji’s. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in preparing and presenting authentic dishes, with proven experience in carrying out all aspects of kitchen operations. Responsibilities include food preparation and cooking, maintaining kitchen and service areas in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards, and assisting with stock control and kitchen operations as required. The role requires sound culinary knowledge, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for producing high-quality meals that enhance our customers’ dining experience.

Task & responsibilities

• Inspecting and assessing food items to ensure quality, freshness, and consistency
• Monitoring and regulating the temperature of ovens, grills, and other cooking equipment to ensure optimal cooking conditions
• Preparing, cooking, and presenting a variety of dishes according to established recipes and standards
• Seasoning and adjusting food during preparation to achieve the desired flavours
• Portioning and plating meals attractively, including the addition of sauces, gravies, and garnishes
• Storing ingredients and prepared food in temperature-controlled environments to maintain food safety and quality
• Preparing meals to accommodate special dietary needs and customer preferences
• Assisting in menu planning and estimating food and ingredient requirements as needed
• Providing guidance and on-the-job training to junior kitchen staff and apprentices

Qualification & experience

• Proven experience as a Cook or in a similar role within the hospitality or food service industry
• Strong teamwork, time management, and organizational skills to ensure efficient kitchen operations
• Sound knowledge of food preparation techniques, safety, hygiene regulations, and kitchen procedures
• Attention to detail with a genuine passion for preparing and presenting high-quality, flavourful dishes
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
• Flexibility and adaptability to assist with special functions, seasonal menus, and varying customer requirements
• A relevant qualification in commercial cookery or equivalent certification is highly regarded
