Cook

A Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients at an establishment that serves food, processing customer orders, producing meals and cleaning their workspace throughout the day to follow health and safety guidelines.

Task & responsibilities

• Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment 
• Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.) 
• Cook food in various utensils or grillers 
• Check food while cooking to stir or turn 
• Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served 
• Keep a sanitised and orderly environment in the kitchen 
• Ensure all food and other items are stored properly 
• Check quality of ingredients 
• Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages

Qualification & experience

• Relevant qualification at AQF Certificate III level or higher (or equivalent) in Commercial Cookery or 3 year work relevant expereince can substitue for formal qualifciation
• Minimum 1–2 years of relevant work experience (preferred)
• Sound knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations
• Understanding of food safety practices and hygiene standards
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality
