Kamassi Fishing Australia Pty Ltd trading as Ocean Pacific Seafoods is seeking a full-time Seafood Process Worker to join our seafood processing team at our Port Bundaberg facility.

Ocean Pacific Seafoods supplies quality seafood from Queensland, including spanner crab and other seafood products for Australian and international customers. Its head office is at 15 Marina Drive, (Port Bundaberg) Burnett Heads QLD 4670.

Position details

  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Hours: 38 hours per week
  • Salary: AUD $65,900 to $71,600 per annum plus superannuation

Duties

The successful applicant will perform seafood processing duties across crab, prawn, scallop and other shellfish products. 

Duties include:

  • operating crab meat processing and crab spinning machinery; 
  • sorting crab meat and removing shell fragments to meet quality standards; 
  • weighing crab meat, prawns, scallops and other seafood products according to customer orders; 
  • stamping or applying production dates to crab meat bags and other packaging; 
  • vacuum packing seafood products, including crab meat, prawns and shellfish meat; 
  • packing seafood products ready for storage, dispatch or customer orders; 
  • peeling and deveining prawns; 
  • sorting prawns and scallops according to size and quality; 
  • preparing shellfish by removing heads, cutting product, peeling shells, removing meat and preparing portions for packing; 
  • shucking scallops using a blunt knife; 
  • cleaning scallops and preparing them for packing; 
  • using knives and hand tools safely to cut, clean, peel, shuck and prepare seafood products; 
  • cleaning and sanitising processing machines, equipment, tools and work areas in accordance with manual instructions and food safety procedures; 
  • following workplace health and safety, hygiene, quality assurance and seafood handling procedures; and 
  • assisting with other seafood processing, packing and factory duties as required.

Skills and experience required

Applicants must have:

  • relevant experience in seafood processing, food processing, fishing, manufacturing, agriculture, meat processing or another production environment; 
  • ability to work in a cold-room or chilled seafood processing environment; 
  • ability to perform repetitive manual tasks and stand for extended periods; 
  • ability to safely use knives, hand tools, seafood handling equipment, vacuum packing equipment and processing machinery; 
  • good attention to detail when sorting, weighing, grading, cleaning and packing seafood products; 
  • ability to follow machine operating instructions, cleaning procedures and food safety requirements; 
  • ability to work as part of a seafood production team; 
  • willingness to work early starts, rostered shifts, overtime and seasonal peaks where required; and 
  • commitment to workplace health and safety. 

Relevant seafood handling, food safety, HACCP, manual handling or machine operation training will be highly regarded.
