Deck Hands

Esbjorn Co Pty Ltd is an established longline fishing company operating within Australian Fishing Zones. We are seeking experienced Deck Hands to join our commercial fishing operations based in Buderim, QLD.

The successful applicants will perform maintenance, fishing, and lookout duties aboard fishing vessels while supporting safe and efficient vessel operations. This role requires working at sea for extended periods and performing duties in a physically demanding marine environment.

Task & responsibilities

• Perform watchkeeping and lookout duties aboard the vessel
• Handle ropes, wires, and mooring equipment during berthing and unberthing operations
• Operate and maintain fishing gear, deck machinery, and vessel equipment
• Prepare, set, lower, and haul fishing equipment including nets, lines, pots, and traps
• Handle, sort, store, and process fish and marine catch
• Load and unload vessel supplies, equipment, and catch
• Perform cleaning, repairs, and routine maintenance of vessel equipment, deck gear, rigging, and fishing equipment
• Conduct safety checks and maintain lifesaving and firefighting equipment
• Follow vessel safety procedures and workplace health and safety requirements
• Work collaboratively with vessel crew during fishing operations

Qualification & experience

• Minimum 1 year of Australian work experience in fishing or deckhand operations
• Experience supported by sea-time records, logbooks, or verifiable employment references
• Previous experience working aboard commercial fishing vessels
• Knowledge of fishing operations, vessel safety procedures, and deck equipment
• Ability to perform physically demanding duties, including working in heavy seas and confined spaces
• Ability to work away from home for several days or weeks depending on fishing operations
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety standards
• Ability to work effectively as part of a vessel crew
