FRUIT FARM WORKERS

The successful candidates will carry out a range of hands-on farming duties across the growing season, including soil preparation, irrigation, pruning, pest and disease management, and general farm maintenance, contributing to the production of premium quality fresh blueberries for retail and wholesale markets.

Task & responsibilities

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Preparing and fertilising soil beds and carrying out ongoing bush maintenance including weeding, thinning and pruning to support strong fruit development across the growing season 
• Planting blueberry bushes and seedlings using hand tools and farm machinery as required for crop replacement and expansion 
• Installing and repairing bird netting and perimeter fencing to minimise crop losses from wildlife and weather 
• Applying pesticide and fungicide treatments to blueberry bushes to manage weed pressure, insect populations and fungal threats
• Managing drip and overhead irrigation systems to deliver adequate water to blueberry crops at each stage of growth 
• Safely operating and servicing tractors, spray units and other horticultural machinery used across cultivation and treatment activities 
• Carrying out routine cleaning and upkeep of sheds, irrigation infrastructure and general farm facilities 
• Walking the blueberry rows regularly to assess crop health, identify emerging issues and report findings to farm management 
• Recording crop data, chemical applications and treatment activities using farm management software and digital data collection tools

Qualification & experience

Minimum qualification requirement: Compulsory secondary education (completed). At least one year of relevant full-time work experience in the last 5 years may substitute for the formal qualifications.

Work experience requirement: The successful applicant will have at least 1 year of highly relevant full-time work experience in the last 5 years, undertaken in Australia. If the applicant has not undertaken the 1-year work experience in Australia, they must have 2 years of work experience.
