Task & responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for the daily training and education of horses, including yearlings, to ensure they obey verbal and non-verbal commands. 

Key responsibilities include:

• Implementing tailored rehabilitation programs for racehorses transitioning into performance roles.
• Educating yearlings by teaching them to lead, accept rugging, and handle basic training cues.
• Managing precise feeding and rugging schedules tailored to each horse’s specific needs. 
• Administering essential medical treatments, including oral medications, injections, and professional bandaging for injuries. 
• Maintening detailed health records, including deworming and farrier schedules. 
• Providing professional assistance to Veterinarians and Farriers during specialized procedures and check-ups. 
• Handling all horse types, from foals and broodmares to stallions and yearlings, while maintening the highest safety and husbandry standards. 
• Monitoring and cleaning water troughs and ensuring all paddocks remain safe. 

Working hours and schedule:

• Split shifts: Daily duties are typically performed in split shifts. Morning shifts start at 4a.m. and afternoon shifts start at 2p.m.
• Roster: Hours change weekly based on the training and rehabilitation requirements of the horses. 
• Weekends: Week end work is mandatory as part of a rotating roster to ensure consistent care and treatment. 
• On call duties: Due to the nature of racehorse , the successful candidate will be required to be available on-call for equine emergencies and the care of sick or injured horses outside of standard rostered hours. The successful candidate needs to be located no further than 20 minutes away from the property. 

Qualification & experience

• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a Horse Trainer or a similar high-level equine role is required. 
• Technical skills: Demonstrated experience in handling stallions, yearlings, weanlings and foals, with a strong background in racehorse rehabilitation and conditioning. 
• Capability: Proven ability to work independently, manage a busy schedule, and maintain a high standard of equine welfare and safety. 
• Communication: Strong verbal and written English skills are essential for maintaining accurate health records and following veterinary instructions.
• Must be physically fit and in good health. 
• Must be capable of driving manual vehicles, tractors. Must be experienced with horse transportation.
