Dairy Cattle Farm Operator

Offering a welcoming and supportive environment, we are seeking experienced Dairy Cattle Farm Operators on a full time basis to assist with the milking functions of our 400+ cows as well as undertake calf rearing responsibilities with our spring calving herd and assist with general farm operations. There are currently two milking shifts per day, utilising a 25-a-side swing over dairy.

Task & responsibilities

Working collaboratively with your team to achieve consistent compliance with guidelines and policy, responsibilities of this role will include: 

•  The operation of milking plant and equipment. 
• The operation of standardised and specialist farm equipment (incl. tractors, front end loaders etc). 
• Calving down, calf rearing and herd management, including the treatment and recording of issues, insemination, feeding out etc. 
• General horticultural activities and crop management, including soil preparation, planting, fertilising, harvesting, fencing etc. 
• Reading and recording instrument information (ie. VAT temperatures, cow numbers etc). 
• Maintaining machinery and equipment, undertaking adjustments and reporting faults. 
• Operating standard measuring equipment. 
• Operating computerised systems. 
• Undertaking sanitisation processes to company and legislative standards. 

Qualification & experience

The ideal candidates for these opportunities will have:

• An AQF Certificate II or III (or equivalent) OR a minimum of 1 year of recent and relevant work experience in lieu of the formal qualification. 
• Experience in the various responsibilities listed above. 
• An exceptional work ethic. 
• A strong focus on safety and compliance. 
• A mechanical aptitude and ability to problem solve. 
• Physically fit to undertake the responsibilities listed above. 
• Demonstrable experience adhering to regulations, policy and procedure. 
• Intermediate communication skills – both verbal and written and an empathetic nature. 
• Ability to work well within a team environment, interacting respectfully at all times. 
• Current drivers' license. 
• Q-Fever Vaccinated (or willing to get).
• Mobile plant operation tickets and/or experience preferred. 
• Ability to take direction, whilst using your initiative and working autonomously where required also.
