Telecommunications Field Engineer

Gridcom Pty Ltd – Narangba, QLD

Gridcom Pty Ltd is a well-respected telecommunications services company based in Narangba, Queensland, delivering end-to-end solutions across the telecommunications industry. We support major network deployments and upgrades throughout Queensland and occasionally New South Wales.

We are currently seeking an experienced Telecommunications Field Engineer who is performance-driven, safety-focused, and a strong team player to join our growing team.

The Role

As a Telecommunications Field Engineer, you will play a key role in the installation, integration, commissioning, and optimisation of mobile network infrastructure. You will work on leading-edge carrier technologies, ensuring all work is completed in line with client specifications, industry standards, and HSE requirements.

Key Responsibilities

This role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Installation, upgrade, integration, and commissioning of telecommunications equipment

  • Working with Ericsson and Nokia BTS hardware and associated systems

  • Commissioning and troubleshooting Microwave (MW) technologies

  • Performing optimisation and performance testing across mobile, cellular, and Ethernet networks

  • Fault finding and rectification on network hardware, systems, and ancillary equipment

  • Ensuring all works comply with carrier standards (Telstra, Optus, VHA, NBN Wireless)

  • Maintaining high standards of safety, quality assurance, and documentation

  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and design documentation

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in telecommunications field engineering, including installation, commissioning, and integration

  • Strong understanding of RF and Hybrid fibre systems (RF plumbing)

  • Proven experience working with major carrier networks (Telstra, Optus, VHA, NBN)

  • Hands-on experience with test equipment such as:

    • PIM testers

    • Fibre testing equipment

    • Antenna and RF systems testing tools

    • Ethernet/network testing tools

  • Solid troubleshooting and fault-finding capability

  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, schematics, and technical documents

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment

  • Flexible and reliable approach to work

Rigging experience or qualifications will be highly regarded but are not essential.

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Telecommunications qualification (Diploma, Certificate, or equivalent) – preferred

  • Valid Driver’s Licence – essential

  • Construction Industry White Card

  • RF Hazard Awareness Training

  • First Aid & CPR certification

  • Working at Heights & Tower Rescue (desirable, not essential)

Remuneration & Benefits

  • Full-time permanent position (38-hour week)

  • Competitive salary: $76,600 – $85,000, depending on experience
