About the Company Step into a workshop where history meets modern reliability. We are an iconic Australian manufacturing brand, globally recognized for our uncompromising quality and commitment to traditional production methods. This is not your standard, cookie-cutter modern factory floor. Our facility blends contemporary practices with highly unique, specialist, and bespoke machinery—some of which has been reliably spinning for over 100 years. We take immense pride in our heritage, our craftsmanship, and the people who keep our legacy moving.
About the Role As the Maintenance Team Leader (Mechanical Fitter), you will step into a vital, dual-focus leadership role. Working alongside another supervisor, you will co-lead a dedicated team of approximately 10 skilled tradespeople (including mechanical fitters and sparkies).
This is a frontline leadership position where your people skills are the absolute key. While you will be managing daily priorities, coordinating preventative maintenance, and liaising with management, you are someone who genuinely loves the trade and is happy to "jump in" and get your hands dirty alongside your team when the floor needs it.
Key Responsibilities
-
Team Leadership & Collaboration: Co-supervise, mentor, and motivate a team of 10 trades and apprentices, fostering a highly collaborative, supportive, and accountable workshop culture.
-
Bespoke Asset Management: Manage daily priorities, reactive repairs, and highly critical preventative maintenance schedules for unique, heritage, and specialized machinery.
-
Safety & WHS Champion: Lead by example to ensure all work complies with strict workplace health and safety legislation, conducting risk management and hazard identification.
-
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement: Utilize a sharp eye for detail to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and implement lean/TPM frameworks to minimize downtime.
-
Communication Bridge: Act as the vital link between the floor and upper management, attending daily meetings and streamlining resource allocation.
What We Are Looking For
-
The Trade: A relevant Mechanical Trade Qualification (Certificate III or higher).
-
The Experience: Proven experience in a maintenance role within an industrial or manufacturing environment, with previous supervisory or team-leading exposure.
-
The Mindset: Strong problem-solving skills and a genuine knack for unique machinery. You look at a 100-year-old machine not as a headache, but as a masterpiece that deserves meticulous care.
-
The People Skills: Exceptional communication abilities. You know how to build trust with the trades on the floor, manage risk safely, and report effectively to production managers.
-
The Flexibility: A leader who balances strategic administrative duties with a hands-on work ethic.
- Desirable but not essential: Forklift, EWP, or Working at Heights tickets.
