As a Designer/ Graduate Engineer, you are expected to be working to achieve competency and the ability to complete:
Active Involvement as a collaborative member of the engineering and design team.
Design and detailing of all fire protection systems (with support from the team)
Maintaining and exceeding the company drafting standards and ISO 9001 quality system
CAD proficiency in 2D and 3D (Primarily AutoCAD) and maintaining a flexible approach to understanding the fundamentals of the client’s CAD software, including NavisWorks
Liaise with the client as required under the guidance of the senior team.

MAIN DUTIES:
Design and detailing of all fire protection systems with guidance and support from the FSS team.
Conduct site surveys and associated reports, together with budgets/schedules.
Development of hydraulic calculations and reports
Development of Material Take-Offs and Cost Estimates
Analyse engineering sketches, specifications and information
Develop design drawings according to design specifications and internal markups.
Develop documentation, including design criteria, specifications, and technical reports, as required.
Conduct quality checks of documents, designs, and reports to ensure information and calculations are accurate.
Develop maintenance and other schedules as required in consultation with the Engineers.
Direct Involvement in the procurement management process for projects involving the supply of equipment and liaising with third parties, which can include sourcing quotes, technical and commercial evaluations of quotations and/or bids, drafting of purchase orders, QA inspections, preparation of documentation and collaboration prior to dispatch.
Willingness to travel (as required) by our clients and to project locations
Conduct the work in accordance with FSS Engineering Procedures and drawing office standards and protocols.
Aim for continuous improvement and high performance in relation to the drafting/design standards and professional capabilities and quality system maintained and delivered by FSS.
Advance and uphold knowledge of standards and regulations for Australian and International projects as required.
Promote a professional approach to fire systems and to our clients
Conduct the client brief in the most cost / technically efficient manner
Always promoting the interests of FSS and a professional approach to fire protection and our clients
Meeting strict deadlines with attention to detail, correctness, and minimal supervision.
Providing support and assistance to the project manager, engineers, and off-site/ in-house workshop technical officers
To produce positive outcomes reliably within a team environment or autonomously.
Be a clear communicator with a strong work ethic, capable of adapting to changing work environments, work practices and technologies.
Be able to complete or contribute successfully to and for a wide range of drafting disciplines within the company portfolio, including mining and metals, oil and gas, power and energy, and industrial infrastructure.
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor Degree in Engineer and have a minimum of 2 years experience working in this field.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Able to work independently whilst interacting closely with team members
Demonstrate a high knowledge of all facets of fire systems, including fire detection, protection and fire suppression systems, including passive.
Demonstrate a sound knowledge of industrial process risks (including mining/metals, minerals processing, smelting, petrochemical, power/heavy industrial and mobile plant.
Demonstrate a high knowledge of international insurer’s requirements, including predominant Factory Mutual Data Sheets and standard NFPA requirements.
Work to obtain/maintain industry accreditation for up to three (3) individual categories as defined within a licence or industry structure (such as QBCC, FPA Australia) (including Hydraulic Services design, Fire Protection – Water-Based Fire System Stream – Certify, Fire Suppression Systems – Special Hazards, Pumpset and Water supplies) OR Equivalent Fire Protection Industry Accreditations.
Participate in relevant professional development and accreditation courses as directed by the company.
Effective competencies in the following applications:
o CAD proficiency in 2D and 3D (Primarily AutoCAD) and maintaining a flexible approach to understanding the fundamentals of the client’s CAD software, including NavisWorks o Microsoft 365, Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, Teams o HYENA Hydraulics Calculation, Aspire, Commitment to FSS policies in relation to ‘Ethics and Safety’, plus a commitment to the sharing of technical knowledge amongst team members, with the goal of continuous improvement in all work processes across all team members
Proactive communication with FSS team members in meetings, events and engagements, and contribute to the successful outcomes of FSS remote and in-office team collaboration and hybrid work practices.
Ability to handle small to medium-scale feasibility study/detailed design projects with assistance from the senior team.
