Yanchep, 6035, Western Australia
Full time
We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistants – Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to end Term 4, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
We are a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) School and believe that expected behaviours need to be explicitly taught and positively reinforced. Our school values of Respect, Integrity, Safety, Excellence and Resistance underpin all that we do at Yanchep Rise. Applicants should have an understanding of the Yanchep Rise PS context and exhibit an ability to build effective working relationships with staff, students and the school community.
The Role
As Education Assistant – Special Needs you will form part of our dedicated team of staff working with students with a range of special needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Cerebral Palsy (CP), Global Developmental Delay (GDD) and other mental health and developmental disabilities and/or disorders. In this role, you will ideally collaborate with the classroom teacher to assist in the planning and delivery of educational programs to support the learning and development of students with special needs. Building meaningful relationships with children with special needs and their families will be an important part of this role, and as such, effective communication and interpersonal skills will be required. Applicants with TEAM TEACH Training (Positive Handling) and knowledge of Trauma Informed Practices would be highly desirable.
Suitable applicants should ideally be confident working with small groups of students with minimal supervision, be highly motivated, flexible and enthusiastic about assisting teachers in implementing specialised education programs and creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students.
We seek enthusiastic team members who show initiative in adapting tasks to meet student needs, who continually reflect on their practice and who are open to being observed and receiving feedback to guide their professional growth. Ideally, you will contribute advice and expertise; collaborating with staff to support and monitor student progress. Be committed to maximising their impact on student learning and who work well within a team environment. Our staff have high expectations and truly believe that all students can learn and be successful. As a Yanchep Rise PS staff member, you would embrace evidence-based strategies in place across the school to meet the needs of students.
In addition, the ability to work independently and at times without supervision, and the ability to think on your feet and use your initiative to manage challenging behaviours will be highly regarded.
Applicants with experience working with special needs students, effective relationships and partnerships which promote positive outcomes for students are central to everything we do.
