Role

The Secondary Teacher Assistant (STA) will perform a number of duties in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice and school policy. The STA will be based in one of the College’s four Houses and will be linked to a Leading Teacher who will supervise and monitor their work.

The Secondary Teacher Assistant is required to:

  • provide friendly and helpful assistance to students, parents and staff
  • prioritise and manage work demands
  • communicate effectively with a range of people
  • work as part of the house team to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and professional manner
  • provide specialized knowledge that is relied upon to deliver services to the work area
Responsibilities
  • Checking homegroup rolls daily to ensure they are maintained correctly.
  • Contacting parents to ascertain whether a student absence is approved.
  • Preparing reports for Homegroup teachers and House coordinators to facilitate the follow‑up of student absences.
  • Issuing late passes and early leaver passes.
  • Issuing uniform passes when a coordinator is not present.
    • Answering and attending to phone and general enquiries to the House
    • Directing students to appropriate assistance especially in the absence of coordinators
    • Word‑processing, filing, photocopying of House documents and resources.
    • Ordering supplies and requisites
    • Assisting in the organizing of House events e.g. graduations, parent info evenings
Whole School Support
  • Creating student appointments with the school psychologist
  • Year 10 and 11 exam support
  • Producing certificates for student award ceremonies
  • Supporting the VHAP coordinator
Other Duties
  • Performing other duties appropriate to the classification to assist in the effective delivery of services
