About the role

As a Residential Worker, you will provide day to day support, supervision and engagement to young people aged 16-25 residing one (1) of two (2) 24/7 gender specific crisis Youth Accommodation Services (known as St Margarets and St Johns) for young people (and young adults) who are homeless. The role focuses on creating a safe, stable, and supportive environment while assisting young people to build independent living skills, develop positive routines, and achieve case plan goals. You will assist clients to stabilise, resolve challenges, connect with family and community supports and access housing, education, training and or job opportunities.


To be successful you will need

▪ Recognised Certificate IV qualification in Youth work or Community Services (or equivalent) or enrolment in studies is 
preferred.
▪ Prior experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds and in providing support, case work and or practical 
assistance to people experiencing homelessness and or a crisis.
▪ Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with people experiencing homelessness, distress, disconnection from family, 
domestic/family violence, alcohol or other drug challenges and or mental health issues. 
▪ Experience in risk assessment, crisis management, incident reporting and skills in navigating solutions to challenges that 
may arise within 24/ 7 residential settings. 
▪ Ability to coordinate / deliver activities that support development of practical, relational and or tenancy related living skills. 
▪ Ability to collaborate with homelessness, health and medical services, First Responders and other service providers. 
▪ Good communication, numeracy, administration, data entry and computer skills and the ability to learn IT systems.
▪ Ability (and willingness) to comply with policies, procedures, established practices and contract deliverables.
▪ Experience working with First Nations people, families, Organisations and communities.

Compliance

✓ Evidence of qualifications or enrolment 
✓ Satisfactory outcome of a current (less than 3 months old) National Criminal History Check
✓ Current Paid Blue Card (QLD working with children card)
✓ QLD drivers’ licence ‘Class C’ or interstate equivalent
✓ Ability (and willingness) to be on 24/7 rotating roster and undertake shift work. 
✓ Required to transport clients and or to visit clients in their place of residence or within another setting 
✓ Out of hours may be required from time to time
✓ Ability (and willingness) to undertake local/regional travel 
✓ Current First Aid certificate and CPR certificate
