This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to start their career in early childhood education, school-aged care or children’s services while completing a recognised qualification.

At Bug-A-Lugs, we care for children aged 3–12 years across our long day care/kindergarten, before and after school care and school holiday programs.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, is willing to learn, and wants to be part of a supportive and hands-on team.

About the role

As a trainee educator, you will work alongside experienced educators to support children’s learning, play, wellbeing and daily routines.

You will be supported to complete your traineeship while gaining practical experience in a real childcare environment and receive off the floor study time.

Duties include:

Supporting children during indoor and outdoor play

Assisting with activities, crafts, games and group experiences

Helping with routines such as meals, hygiene and transitions

Building positive relationships with children, families and educators

Supporting children’s safety, wellbeing and supervision

Learning about policies, procedures, child development and compliance requirements

Completing your traineeship study requirements

We are looking for someone who is: 

Kind, patient and genuinely interested in working with children

Reliable and willing to learn

Able to take direction and work as part of a team

Confident to get involved in play, activities and daily routines

Positive, respectful and professional

Able to communicate well with children, families and staff

Interested in building a career in early childhood education and OSHC

You will need:

  • A current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one

  • Willingness to complete a traineeship in Early Childhood Education and Care or School Age Education and Care

  • A positive attitude and commitment to learning

  • Availability across before school, day care, after school and/or school holiday hours would be an advantage
