Gill Builders, a luxury residential new home builder based in south-east Melbourne, is seeking an experienced and detail-focused Architectural Draftsperson to join our team. We deliver high-quality custom homes, luxury townhouses, and design-and-construct projects, and have built a strong reputation for modern, stylish and functional homes backed by accurate, compliant documentation.

About the Role

The Architectural Draftsperson will turn design concepts into accurate, code-compliant drawings, plans and specifications, working closely with our design team, surveyors and construction staff. The role requires strong technical drafting ability, sound knowledge of building codes and regulations, and close attention to detail to ensure all documentation meets project and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Translating design concepts into detailed working drawings, plans and specifications for custom homes and townhouses.
• Supporting construction managers, designers and surveyors with project planning, coordination and organisation.
• Interpreting plans, building codes, regulations and codes of practice and applying them to documentation.
• Producing preliminary sketches and progressing them through to full working drawings and specifications.
• Preparing, editing and revising plans, maps, charts and technical drawings as projects develop.
• Coordinating works programs and drawing schedules to keep projects on track.
• Reviewing work and materials against specifications, regulations and applicable standards for compliance.
• Calculating costs and estimating project time frames to assist with planning.
• Collecting site data using surveying instruments and photogrammetric equipment where required.
• Performing routine computations and plotting preliminary data to support design documentation.
• Maintaining accurate project records, drawing registers and version control.
• Liaising with builders, contractors and consultants to resolve documentation queries.
• Keeping up to date with current drafting software, building codes and industry standards through ongoing professional development.

Essential Qualifications

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Building Design, Architectural Drafting or a related field (AQF) or equivalent overseas qualification recognised in Australia.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience as an Architectural Draftsperson, or relevant work experience in lieu of qualification.
• Proficiency in CAD/drafting software (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit or equivalent).
• Sound knowledge of the National Construction Code, Australian Standards and relevant building regulations.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple drawings and deadlines in line with project schedules.

Desirable

• Experience across custom homes, luxury townhouses and knockdown rebuild projects.
• Familiarity with 3D modelling and BIM workflows.
• Experience liaising directly with builders, surveyors and certifying authorities.
