Position Overview

Reporting to the Director, an architect is responsible for designing residential buildings and planning layouts that are functional, safe, and visually appealing. The role supports the company by creating building plans, coordinate with engineers and developers, ensure compliance with building regulations, and oversee design implementation during construction.

Task & responsibilities

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The main responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to:

1. Home Design and Planning

  • Design residential layouts that are practical, comfortable, and visually appealing for clients.
  • Prepare concept plans, floor plans, elevations, and layouts that show the structure and appearance of the home.
  • Plan spaces according to client needs, family size, budget, lifestyle, and future requirements.

2. Client Coordination

  • Meet clients to understand their design ideas, preferences, lifestyle needs, and expectations.
  • Provide professional suggestions to improve space usage, natural light, ventilation, comfort, and overall appearance.
  • Revise drawings and layouts based on client feedback while keeping the design practical and suitable for construction.

3. Technical Drawings and Documentation

  • Prepare accurate architectural drawings such as plans, sections, elevations, and construction details.
  • Include dimensions, materials, specifications, and design details needed by builders and contractors.
  • Maintain updated project records, drawing revisions, approvals, and design documents.

4. Compliance and Approvals

  • Ensure all designs follow local building codes, council regulations, safety standards, and planning requirements.
  • Ensure designs comply with all relevant provisions of the National Construction Code.
  • Prepare and support documents required for planning approvals, building permits, and certification processes.
  • Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, certifiers, and other consultants to complete approval requirements.

5. Construction Support

  • Work closely with builders and site teams to explain design details and ensure the plans are followed correctly.
  • Answer construction-related questions about drawings, materials, dimensions, and design intent.
  • Help solve design-related issues that may arise on-site during the construction process.

6. Quality and Innovation

  • Ensure the completed home maintains strong design quality, functionality, and visual appeal.
  • Make effective use of available space by planning rooms, storage areas, circulation, and outdoor spaces carefully.
  • Support modern and sustainable design by considering energy efficiency, natural lighting, ventilation, and suitable materials.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

The Architect will liaise with:

  • Director / Owner and management.
  • Administrative, clerical and support staff.
  • Engineers, surveyors, certifiers and Consultants.
  • Customers and business contacts.
  • Builders and Site teams
  • Local councils and other regulatory bodies.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Availability to work full-time hours in accordance with business needs.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with management, staff, clients, engineers, surveys, builders and site teams.
  • Some local travel may be required. 
  • This position is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and holders of valid work visas.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to liaise effectively with directors, staff, customers and other building and construction teams.
  • Sound understanding of workplace health and safety and compliance procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail when preparing drawings and specifications and focus on quality also

Qualification & experience

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • AQF bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working collaboratively with engineers, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in architectural software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, ArchiCAD, and other design tools
