About the role

At Made Safe Scaffolding, a formwork carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, and dismantling formwork structures used in concrete construction.

This role involves interpreting plans, measuring and cutting materials, assembling shutters and frameworks, and ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications set out by clients and Australian safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Measure, cut, assemble, and install timber and engineered formwork.
  • Construct and strip formwork for slabs, columns, walls, beams, and stairs.
  • Ensure formwork is aligned, level, and braced correctly before concrete pours.
  • Work with steel fixers, concreters, crane operators, and other trades on site.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and other construction equipment safely.
  • Perform general carpentry duties related to formwork and temporary structures.
  • Inspect completed formwork to ensure structural integrity and compliance.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Follow Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), site rules, and WHS requirements.
  • Report hazards, incidents, defects, or delays to supervisors promptly.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and handling construction materials.

Skills and Experience requirements

  • Proven experience as a formwork carpenter in commercial, residential, or civil construction.
  • Strong knowledge of formwork systems, concreting processes, and site procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and measurements accurately.
  • Competent in the use of carpentry and construction tools and equipment.
  • Good understanding of safe manual handling practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and physically fit for demanding site work.

Qualifications and Licences requirements

  • Relevant carpentry or construction qualification (preferred).
  • White Card (mandatory).
  • Working at Heights ticket (preferred if required on site).
  • Scaffolding, rigging, or other relevant tickets (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s licence (mandatory).

Work Health and Safety Requirements

  • - Comply with all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
  • - Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • - Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site inductions.
  • - Identify and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • - Use equipment only as trained and authorised.

Physical Requirements

  • - Ability to lift and carry materials safely.
  • - Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • - Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
  • - Comfortable working at heights where required.
