Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Coordinator to support site-based operations and ensure compliance with WHS legislation, company systems, and client requirements. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating and maintaining Tesmec Australia's Health & Safety (H&S) management system across the Sydney workshop, office, and project sites. You will play a key role in promoting a proactive safety culture across multiple construction sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support implementation and monitoring of WHS policies and procedures on-site 
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety observations 
  • Assist with incident investigation and reporting (including near misses) 
  • Develop, deliver and maintain company and site inductions
  • Deliver site inductions and toolbox talks; and coordinate external trainings
  • Interpret and communicate client HSE requirements 
  • Ensure compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act (WHS Act) and Regulations 
  • Maintain safety documentation, registers, and reporting systems 
  • Support risk assessments and safe work method statements (SWMS) 
  • Work closely with site supervisors and project managers to improve safety performance 
  • Coordinate equipment calibration and inspection schedules 
  • Liaise with subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety requirements 
  • Support environmental compliance: waste tracking (POEO Act / NSW EPA), hazardous substances management, spill response. 
  • Support quality assurance, non-conformance and continuous improvement processes. 
  • Prepare monthly and project HSE reports and contribute to management reviews
  • Participate in emergency response planning and drills. 
  • Maintain and continually improve the Tesmec Australia H&S management system 

Key Requirements

  • Tertiary degree in relevant field (minimum)
  • 3 years’ experience in a similar role within construction or civil engineering 
  • Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and compliance standards 
  • Experience conducting site audits and incident investigations 
  • Strong communication and reporting skills 
  • Ability to work across multiple project sites 
  • White Card (Construction Induction Card) – mandatory 
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to sites. 
  • Current First Aid & CPR certificate. 
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline. 
  • Practical, solutions-focused approach 
  • Continuous improvement mindset; comfortable with digital tools and automation. 
  • Self-driven, organised and able to manage competing priorities across multiple sites. 
  • Integrity and courage to stop unsafe work and escalate when required. 
  • ICAM or TapRooT investigation training 

Desirable

  • Experience in major wind farm, renewable energy or cable installation projects 
  • Experience working with subcontractor management systems 
  • Experience with digital HSE platforms (Dashpivot / Sitemate, Notion, Excel).
  • Confined Space, Working at Heights, EWP tickets
